Biography

Beatrice McNamara studied music education at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München (majoring in piano), English and educational science at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich. During her English studies, she was able to gain intercultural experience as a volunteer in social projects in London. In 2015, she completed her studies with the First State Examination for teaching at secondary schools. She then studied at the Department of Music Education (LMU) and obtained a master's degree in 2018. After completing her master’s studies, she took on a teaching position at the Department of Music Education (LMU). Since January 2019 she has been working as a research assistant and PhD student at the LMU with Prof. Dr. Alexandra Kertz-Welzel. Her PhD studies are a part of the project Unterricht inklusiv gestalten mit Musik (Teaching Music Inclusively) which was initiated by the Münchner Zentrum für Lehrerbildung. The project is funded by the federal and state governments with funds from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

Her research interests lie in the field of social justice, inclusion and community music.
